MEANING: these candies (or ‘sweets’, like we called them actually “eg., ‘mama, I want to buy Ekanna Gowon sweet’ 😉 ) are named (by the children, sort of) by their physical looks.

Oh oh oh ohH, let’s go Back To the StarT
Eh eh eh eh, oH ohh, let’s go Back To the Start

(VERSE 3)

*Talubosa kekere kan t’o ko sinu omi
: a small Talubosa that fell into a pool
MEANING: Adekunle Gold’s Talubosa sounds like ‘onion’; but we say ‘mami-water’, actually; and it means ‘mermaid’ in English. Note that, we mean ‘mermaid’ in the generic form, meaning ‘male or female’, as in generic ‘man’.

Mo n so fun latowuro, titi dojo ale
: I’ve been telling it since in the morning, till dust periods

Dide soke, bo oju re wa’le; 9jalyrics
: that ‘stand up, wipe your face

Fi sapa otun re, fi sapa Osi re
: tilt to your right, tilt to your left

M’enikeni t’o bA wun re oh, k’o fi s’ayA
: select whoever you like, make her your wife’

M’enikEni t’o ba wUn re oh, k’o fi s’aya
: select whoever you like, make her your wife
MEANING: *the game (check the ‘Guess Game 1’ below) is played by children forming a big circle by holding each other’s hands, and one child starts the game by sitting at the center of the circle. Children roll round the child and sing this verse 3 song.
The child do whatever the song says (he or she ‘stand up’, ‘wipe your eyes’ like you would do if truely fell in a pool, ’tilt/bend to the left and right’, ‘select’ whoever you like among the cycling children; select a female if you’re a male, select a male if you’re a female) and you’ll kind of, with a hug, bring to the center, whoever you select. This selected child would then take your place at the center of the cycle, and the game starts all over again.
Note that, this match-making game is a perfect opportunity to select (and sometimes hug, if neither is shy) the girl/boy you’ve been crushing on; and this selection leaves lasting effect on some children even till they grow older. Not this days that you’ll need money for a smart phone, internet and even better network reception, to google your crush on Instagram/Facebook/Snapchat and co. Even distractions from Mark Zuckerberg and other founders, in the forms of ‘people you might know’, ‘suggested friends’, ‘sponsored posts’ etc, are enough to make your ‘selection’ change many times in your mind before you eventually point at one, who looks like a mermaid on social media but in real life wowo like me and Oshiomole and Patience Ozokwo and Akpororo and of course- ‘you’…just jokes ohhhh

(OUTRO)

Ki lo se Sisi PeLebe, Baba Dudu, Ekanna Gowon ati Balewa?
: what happened to the ‘Flat/Slim Lady’, ‘Black Man’, ‘Gowon Finger’ and ‘Balewa’ candies?

Let’s go Back To the StaRt, let’s go Back To the Start nah
Let’s go Back To the StarT
